LIE movie review: For several reasons, a commercial success is an immediate need for 14 Reels Entertainment. Omit the humongous success of Dookudu, there is seriously nothing much to talk about this production house in monetary terms. Will Nithin and Hanu Raghavapudi provide them the much-needed box-office success?
What is it about?
Padmanabham (Arjun Sarja) is a powerful baddie who has been successfully keeping himself safe from National Intelligence Agency for a long time. However, this powerful man has a very unusual obsession or weakness. Flip side there is A.Sathyam (Nithiin) who intentionally and also with a declaration only speaks the lie. Then, there is Chaitra (Megha Akash) who falls for his lies.
The story takes a turn when Nithiin gets a box which the villain desperately needs to have his hands on. What is there in that box? The mind game begins from here.
Artists and Performances
Nithiin is super stylish in full bearded look. Have to say, it was a different sight to see the boy donning a different look. Not just that, he has come up with a very much improved dialogue delivery this time. Arjun is a killer. He even dominated Nithiin in a scene. A bearded guy has played the protagonist and a clean shaved one is an antagonist. See how time has broken stereotypes.
Mega Akash is okay looks wise. We can take decent notes from her performance. It was good to see Sreeram after a very long time. Ravi Kishan as usually disappoints in yet another Telugu film.
LIE movie review Technical Talk
Manisharma is back. The Bhombhaat song is already a blockbuster. Songs looked good on screen. Coming to background score, the maestro has delivered excellent output just another time in his career of decades. We could say, this is the best re-recording work in recent times. The cinematography is porn for movie lovers with decent to good knowledge about camera and frames. The camera work has done justice to the rich locales the story has been shot in. Editing is uneven. At times the scenes are wrapped up at some pace and at times, they are dragged. This is why the pace of the movie is uneven. Although the album is good, songs played the speed breakers. They could be chopped off in thrillers. Production values are super rich as we expect from a production of 14 reels.
LIE movie review Analysis
Hanu Raghavapudi, who previously directed Andala Rakshasi and Krishna Gaadi Veera Prema Gaadha was branded as a love story maker. The lie is his attempt for a makeover. It has a well-written villain character and rugged hero character who did many cinematically great things on the screen. But there is no great support from other elements in the script. It could be a love track, songs which don’t please in the middle of a story, dragged scenes or slow narration.
We have a fresh plot here, a different thing from what we see every Friday. But the execution isn’t good enough to make you fall in love with an out of the box film. It’s just the matter of time, the audience got habituated to cat and dog flicks coming from Hollywood. They know the pace and sensibilities of a thriller. Lie slightly missed the good mark and settles down at average.
There are good scenes uncovering the twists, good stunts raising the excitement, rich locations giving you the feel of grandeur, strong villain, and hero but Lie works in bits and don’t in bits.
