Main Article : The days have gone where people used to spend hours of time and sometimes even days to know their pension status.The Union Minister for Finance & Corporate Affairs Shri Arun Jaitley commended the new initiatives undertaken by the Office of the Controller General of Accounts (CGA) to serve the pensioners better through the newly launched Web Responsive Pensioner’s Service portal among others. In Delhi, the Finance Minister Shri Arun Jaitley on wednsesday launched a new Digital India initiative taken up by the O/o the Controller General of Accounts, namely, a Web Responsive Pensioner’s Service.
This portal developed by the Central Pension Accounting Office (CPAO) provides a one-stop solution for pensioners to access information relating to status of pension cases, and pension payments processed by Central Ministries/Departments and Banks.CPAO was created with the primary objective of simplifying procedure and reducing the number of agencies for pensions payment and to fasten the process of authorization, revision and transfer of pension through Authorized Banks.The working of CPAO is fully computerized and it maintains a databank of Central (Civil) pensioners.. The coverage of the Scheme extends to all pensioners of the Central Government employed in Civil Ministries/Departments (other than Railways, Posts, and Defence), National Capital Territory of Delhi, Union Territory Administrations without legislatures, retired Judges of the High Courts and the Supreme Court and All India Service Officers.
All the eligible ones can view their complete pension profile digitally by logging on to www.cpao.nic.in. This Scheme also covers payment of pension to former Members of Parliament and the payment of pension and other amenities to the former Presidents/Vice Presidents of India. At present over 1226593 pensioners are provided pension related services by the CPAO through more than 70411 paying bank branches all over the country.They will also be provided with an SMS facility for tracking the status of the pension process and their grievance registration as well as disposal. Shri Jaitley appreciated the role of PFMS in ensuring that the funds reach the intended beneficiaries and are essentially used for the purpose they were intended for. The function was co-presided by the Minister of State for Expenditure, Shri Arjun Ram Meghwal and was attended among others the by several Secretaries of different Ministries/Departments and other senior functionaries of the Government of India.
