Around 50 Instagram influencers in the city gathered at Necklace Road local station on Sunday morning to clean the entire premises of the railway station voluntarily despite troubled weather conditions. On the occasion of International Youth Day, members of National Agenda Forum (NAF) along with the UNESCO and Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Education for Peace (MGIEP) took up the sanitation drive to promote Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).
Youth from different parts of the city were present for the sanitation drive and saplings plantation that took place in the station premises. During the drive, while the grown-ups cleaned the surroundings, the children helped in planting the saplings.
According to organizers, the ‘Instameet’ has engaged the youth for active participation and created awareness to protect, restore and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, sustainably manage forests, combat desertification, halt and reverse land degradation and halt biodiversity loss.
Vasudha, an Instagram influencer, said that the acts of kindness performed by youth which are institutionally recognized and reinforced will initiate social and economic changes necessary for the success of SDG implementation.
This campaign has gone live on social media platforms with hashtags #KindnessMatters, #InternationalYouthDay, #IYD2018, #UNESCO_MGIEP, #NationalAgendaForum, #IndianPAC #NAF, #LifeOnLand and #SDG.
