Montage Short Film Festival by St. Mary’s College: After the successful launch last year, St. Mary’s College is hosting the second National short film festival Montage Short Film Festival on 5th January in the college premises. The event intends to encourage student filmmakers from across the country to come together and collectively celebrate the culture of short films. Montage Short Film Festival is an initiative by the Department of Social Sciences and Mass Communication. The mission of the event is to encourage student filmmakers to portray their talents in narrative story-telling and aesthetic treatment of universal subjects. The fest serves alongside as a platform for young minds to see, share and discuss how to tell powerful stories in the shorter format of the medium. This year, there is a new segment Short Cuts exclusively for students below the age group of 15 years (up to class X). It’s initiated to encourage filmmaking since a young age. Participating in this event may fortify the creativity in children and inspire them to assess and work on their strong creative areas.
Earlier, Montage Short Film Festival had received 25 short films from students all over India with a variety of themes. Media students and film enthusiasts were invited to the screening and workshop sessions. For the second edition, the festival has received 20 films from across film/media schools so far. St. Mary’s College in Hyderabad has its origins in the St. Mary’s Junior College, which was established at Himayatnagar, Hyderabad in 1982. Subsequently, the junior college was shifted to its present premises at Basheer Bagh. It soon became an institution of choice for many in Hyderabad. In 1995, a second campus of the College opened at Yousufguda in Hyderabad, which became an undergraduate college in 2002.
